New (Tamil: ) is a 2004 Tamil language film which stars S. J. Suryaah director and producer of the film and Simran in the lead roles co-starring Devayani and Kiran. New is about an 8-year-old boy who is turned into a 28-year-old man by a scientist. It is inspired by the Hollywood film Big. The film was simultaneously shot 12 in Telugu as Naani starring Mahesh Babu and Amisha Patel in the lead roles. The Telugu version was also directed by S. J. Suryaah and released on May 14 2004. The film grossed $10 million at the box office. The film's music by noted composer A. R. Rahman had created waves in the audio market. However the movie was banned by the Madras High Court in August 2005 a year after it collected huge revenues in the box office on the grounds of "arousing sensual feelings" of its viewers especially the young. 3

The soundtrack was composed by Academy Award winner A. R. Rahman with lyrics by Vaali.5 Rahman remixed the 1964 hit Tamil song "Thottal Poo Malarum" from the movie Padagotti with completely modified orchestration tune and singers.
